About Us
We have been market gardening in this area for more than 25 years, and have been at Low Stanger since 2006.
We are committed to sustainable, organic agriculture and to local food production.
We grow organic fruit and vegetables for direct sale through our box scheme, and at the farm gate.

Market Gardening

We have around 3 acres of organic market gardens at Low Stanger, where we grow a wide range of vegetables.
Conservation
Common Speedwell, Well Meadow
Part of the farm is low lying and not suitable for cultivation. Decades of low-input farming here have allowed a wide diversity of plants and animals to thrive.
Part of our job is to manage these habitats carefully to maintain this variety.
The river Cocker runs through the farm, and around fifteen acres of the surrounding land forms a flood plain during heavy rain events. This area hold millions of gallons of water back for a day or two, reducing the shock of the flood on downstream settlements like Cockermouth.
Even on a small farm, small areas can remain wild and untamed.
While much of the farm is used for food production, there are a range of small woods, wetlands and other habitats. These are carefully managed, but they are for wild flora and fauna, as well as providing us with some useful resources like firewood and hedge binders.
